Palm Sync with Virtual PC over USB

A few days back I decided to connect my Palm Tungsten T3 to a Microsoft Virtual PC2007 (VPC) machine that I was experimenting with. So far I was very happy with the VPC, but then I discovered it did not support USB interface at all. It was very disapiointing as I was really excited to take advantages of a VPC.  It is really hard to live without a USB interface these days, specially on a Workstation (servers may be ok without one).

I looked around and found out that the current VMWare products were supporting USB2.0. So I decided to give VMWare Player a try. After some struggle I was successful in connecting my Palm to the HotSync on the PC. I would like add some details of experience here later. But if you are having trouble and need some quick tips, drop me a line.

Update 1 (2007-10-29 19:53:39):

Looks like the host PC and guest VPC fight for USB ports. I noticed that my host PC dropped down to USB 1.0 when a 40GB backup from the host PC estimated the backup time 15+ hours. I cancelled the backup, rebooted the host and restarted the backup which took less than an hour.

It will be safer to say that not to use USB from the host when VPC is in use. Not a perfect solution, but at least works. Better than MS Virtual PC 2007 that has no USB support.
